A recent informal survey by the Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) has revealed that 91% of its members want to use ethanol-free gas for their boats.
BoatUS said at the start of the month that half of those polled have had to replace or repair engine or fuel system parts as a result of “suspected ethanol damage”.
“The poll results are, unfortunately, a clear indication that the myths surrounding boating and ethanol continue to exist,” commented Bob Dinneen, CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA). He pointed out that every boat maker warrants the use of fuel containing up to 10% ethanol, which is known as E10 in the USA, and said that this blend is safe for boat engines.
Meanwhile at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, Don Onken’s ethanol-powered Mystic catamaran, called American Ethanol, reached 208 miles per hour (mph) during a run on August 29. This was the day’s speed record.
