The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Wednesday said that a total of USD 210 million (EUR 192m) will be invested to nearly double the number of pumps supplying renewable fuels to US motorists.
The goal is to raise the number of pumps, and expand the storage capacity and related infrastructure for higher blends of ethanol, including E15 and E85, and intermediate combination blends.
The investment will be made via the Biofuel Infrastructure Partnership (BIP). The total sum includes USD 100 million announced by the USDA in May 2015 and matching commitments by state and private entities. There are 21 states participating in the initiative, with Texas, Florida and Illinois receiving the largest amounts -- USD 17 million, USD 16 million and USD 12 million, respectively.
The final grants will expand the existing infrastructure by almost 5,000 pumps at more than 1,400 fueling stations, the USDA said.
