MayMaan Research LLC has found a way to make a piston engine run on a fuel consisting of 30% ethanol and 70% water, the Jerusalem Post writes.
The Florida-based company has so far built four working prototypes, including a car and a power generator. Vice president Doron Shmueli, was cited as saying that the technology offers a much cleaner alternative to diesel engines, which are currently used everywhere. This is MayMaan’s first target.
Next year, the company will start producing its own generator.
The adoption of the technology in passenger cars is expected to happen eventually, company president Eitan Shmueli says, but this would be a lengthy process because the auto industry is more conservative.
Eitan and Doron are sons of the inventor of the water-and-ethanol-powered engine, Yehuda Shmueli, who has worked on the technology for a couple of years. It is now fully developed and protected by numerous patents.
