UK-based logistics company Suttons Group said last week it will be transporting denatured spirit produced by William Grant & Sons, helping the fight in the UK against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ethanol transported under the deal will be used for the production of hand sanitiser. William Grant & Sons, the UK spirits producer, has adjusted its technology to produce about five million litres of ethanol, which is enough to make 13.5 million 500 ml bottles of hand sanitiser, according to the announcement.

Demand for hand sanitiser has been surging with the spread of the coronavirus around the globe. Last week another transportation firm, Circle Logistics of the US, launched a division that will ship ethanol for hand sanitiser production across the US. The company aims to increase its ethanol distribution to 1.5 million gallons by the end of May.
