Turkey completely restricted DDGS import from the USA after it passed strict legislation for biological safety which prohibits the use of genetically modified corn in fodder production. In 2014, our southern neighbour returned US shipments of DDGS after port authorities ran product control laboratory tests which made it clear that the fodder contained genetically modified components. A few ships transporting US products, which were sailing to Turkey, had to change course while they were still in the open sea because they could not deliver their cargo to their Turkish customers and steer to other destinations.
