Germany produced 613,087 tonnes of bioethanol for fuel in 2018, down 8.9% year-on-year, but the share of the green fuel in gasoline sales grew to 6.3% from 6% in 2017.

The level of 6.3% was previously achieved in 2014, but it declined in the following years.

According to an overview by the German Bioethanol Industry Association (BDBe), Germany last year produced 592,360 tonnes of bioethanol from food crops and 161,230 tonnes in the sugar and beverages sector.

Ethanol sales in 2018 reached 1.19 million tonnes, up by 2.7% from the prior-year figure. Sales of the Super E10, Super (E5) and Super Plus blends were slightly down following a general decline on the fuel market.
