ORLEN Poludnie, a Polish company from the ORLEN Group, said Friday it is planning to build a cellulosic ethanol plant at the Jedlicze Petroleum Refinery in southeastern Poland.
The facility will have the capacity to produce 25,000 tonnes of bioethanol annually. With it, the company wants to cement its position as a leader in biofuels and bio-components at home, while also supporting national targets for renewables content in liquid fuels.
Under a recently signed license agreement, ORLEN Poludnie is to use Clariant’s sunliquid® technology for the making of ethanol from agricultural residues at the planned full-scale commercial plant. The primary feedstock will be straw, sourced from Polish farms.
ORLEN Poludnie said it is also considering biogas production at the site and the installation of a combined heat and power (CHP) plant to use biogas and lignin as fuel.
