The members of the jury of the International Spirits Selection Competition visited the Essentica ethanol plant. The tour was part of the event’s agenda, which took place this year in Plovdiv, from 20th to 25th of August. The experts became acquainted with the production cycle, saw every step from the arrival of the raw material to the finished product, and were very impressed with the embedded technologies.
"Essentica processes about 300 tons of raw material (corn or wheat) per day, giving 120,000 litres of ethyl alcohol and over 100 tons of DDGS. In addition, it has a capacity to produce 30,000 litres grain distillate per day. The production facility is spread over 68 decares," said Essentica’s technologists during the tour.
International experts assessed the scale of production and the level of professionalism in Essentica, touring about the 35,000-ton silos, the mill and the liquefaction, saccharification and fermentation workshops. Some of them also showed interest in the laboratory of Essentica. Special attention was paid to the production of the high-protein DDGS animal feed. The plant was established far back in 1883, however since 2002 large-scale investments have been made in equipment and machinery. Today the factory is one of the most modern on the Balkans, with key market positions in the region.
The jury of Spirits Selection consists of 80 international tasters, spirits experts, journalists, traders from 26 countries. This is the only traveling international competition in the world. Next year, it will be held in China.
"For us, the visit was a great opportunity to see the high level of professionalism and work in the company - even more as that little is known about Bulgaria. We are surprised by the high standards and organization, and I believe that this is a step forward in your even more active promotion on international markets," said Bodua Avo, Chairman of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
