HWRT Oil Company will start offering at its wholesale terminals in three US states pre-blended E15 ethanol fuel, becoming the first company in the country to do so.
Starting from September 16, four HWRT terminals, two in Illinois, and one in each of Arkansas and Indiana, will be selling pre-blended E15. The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) said the move can rapidly open the market for the fuel in the Midwest.
Eventually, HWRT plans to bring E15 to 17 additional terminals. Once that happens, the blend will be available in total of seven states.
The company has more than 30 years of experience blending ethanol. It explained that up to now retailers have been forced to dilute higher ethanol blends (like E85) with regular unleaded so as to be able to offer E15, because could not get it pre-blended at terminals. That process is related to additional storage and equipment costs.
